Crop your photo tightly
One clear subject on a plain background gives the cleanest pattern. Pets, logos and cartoon characters work especially well.
Pick size and colors
29 beads is one large pegboard. Fewer colors (8–12) make the pattern easier to build and cheaper to buy beads for.
Print and build
Print the chart, count the beads per color from the key, fill the pegboard row by row, then iron.
Pegboards, sizes and bead counts
Standard 5 mm fuse beads sit about 5 mm apart, and a large square pegboard holds 29 × 29 beads. A 58-bead pattern therefore needs a 2 × 2 grid of boards and ends up about 29 cm wide. The generator draws a darker line every 29 beads so you can see where each board begins. For cross-stitch, the chart instead marks every 10 stitches, and the finished size is calculated for 14-count Aida.

How many beads fit on one pegboard?
A standard large square pegboard for 5 mm fuse beads holds 29 × 29 beads. The generator draws a thicker line every 29 beads so you can see where one board ends and the next begins.
Does this work with Perler, Hama and Artkal beads?
Yes. Choose Perler, Hama Midi or Artkal S under "Match colors to" and the pattern uses that brand's real bead colors, with their color codes in the key. For cross-stitch you can match to DMC floss.
How big will my finished piece be?
5 mm fuse beads are placed about 5 mm apart, so a pattern 40 beads wide is about 20 cm (7.9 in) wide. For cross-stitch on 14-count Aida, 40 stitches are about 7.3 cm (2.9 in).
Which photos make the best patterns?
Photos with one clear subject, strong contrast and a simple background work best. Crop tightly around the subject first, then use 8 to 16 colors for bead patterns.
