What's customary — a quick orientation
In the US, 15–20% for table service is the norm, with 18–20% standard for good service; counter service commonly gets less or a tip-jar round-up. Customs differ sharply abroad: around 10% or rounding up is typical in much of Europe, while in Japan tipping is generally not practiced at all. When in doubt, the local standard beats the home one — and the calculator handles any percentage either way.
